About Dr Jia Ni (Jarnie) Zhu

​Dr Jia Ni Zhu, ‘Jarnie’ to her patients and friends, is a very experienced General Practitioner who is passionate about providing quality healthcare to the local community.

​

Jarnie grew up in the picturesque Central Otago region in New Zealand before moving to Melbourne for her University studies. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medical Science degrees in 2009 at the University of Melbourne. In her final year of University, she took up the opportunity to go to The School of Medicine at the University of Cambridge in the UK to further her studies. She has also spearheaded research which has culminated in a successful publication in the Medical Journal of Australia while she was at University.

Post graduation, Jarnie gained invaluable experience in paediatrics, gynaecology, obstetrics, cardiology, endocrinology, psychiatry, geriatrics and surgery while working in hospitals within the Southern Health Network (including Monash Medical Centre).

 

Jarnie became a Specialist General Practitioner after she obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners in 2015.

 

As well as working as a General Practitioner, she enjoys being a supervisor for medical students, General Practice registrars and an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners.

 

Jarnie’s special interests are:

  • Gynaecology and sexual health, including Implanon insertions and removals.

  • Iron infusions.

  • Cardiology.

  • Endocrinology.

  • Mental Health.

  • Geriatric Medicine.

 

In her spare time, Jarnie loves to travel and spend time discovering new places and cultures with her friends and family, including her husband Michael, and her two young boys.
